Your Message	Use the form below to type your own message to elected officials and policymakers (sample text provided) There are many unanswered questions as to the need and motive for SEPTA's drive to build parking garages throughout the region. To date, SEPTA and DVRPC have not made a compelling case that justifies the cost and need for additional parking at Jenkintown-Wyncote station. Just under half of the train riders that board at J-W consider J-W to be their home station. Two thirds of those local train riders do not park at J-W. 403 of the 527 parking spaces at J-W Station are used every work day by train riders that do not consider J-W Station to be their home station. Constructing large parking garages in mature, built-out inner suburbs, to house vehicles away from their home stations, results in more VMT throughout the region, increased levels of greenhouse gas emissions, and is not consistent with progressive public transportation, environmental and energy goals. Such a policy, of which the proposed garages at J-W and Glenside stations are a part, is a misappropriation of our tax revenue and will only further encourage rail riders to drive away from their local stations. It is imperative that our tax dollars be used for projects that will increase use of public transit expanding rail lines and increasing commuter rail service at local stations. One such rail line exists in the Northern suburbs: the out-of-service, SEPTA owned Fox Chase-Newtown line. This line has been projected to carry 3,000 daily riders. If you ask SEPTA, they will present to you a fraudulent study that looked at converting the line to a bus several years ago. That notion was very unpopular with local residents, who have been asking SEPTA to reopen this line since the day it closed. SEPTA and DVRPC have been presented with alternatives to parking garages, and have flat out rejected them without due consideration. I respectfully ask for a moratorium on this project, and to cease spending funding on this project until alternatives have been considered. The PAQONE analysis conducted by DVRPC has used out of date data for the environmental analysis, and is not likely to pass a NEPA analysis as required by the EPA.
